“When I believed my compassion required me to keep people pleased, I stayed quiet, trained not to rock the boat. But now I understand that my compassion is in me so that I will rock the boat.”

-Molly Davis Moon

I work with people who are kind, caring, and compassionate toward others, yet experience a very different inner world, filled with internal pressure, self-criticism, and harshness toward themselves. The patience and gentleness you offer to others may not reflect the intensity you carry inside - the feeling that you have to keep going, get it right, hold everything together, or be there for everyone else. It is possible to move toward kindness within yourself without losing the qualities that make you loving, capable, efficient, and good at what you do. Using Internal Family Systems (IFS) therapy, I work with you to see and understand the parts behind the pressure, and to become curious about the different parts of you that may be working hard to protect you. Together, we can make space to experience emotions without allowing them to take over your life. You can learn to be supportive with your self, while still caring for your family, your relationships, your responsibilities, and the life you have built.
